Why I’m leaving Emma

May 17th, 2008 · 22 Comments

Why I’m leaving Emma.

The answer isn’t an easy one. I’ve been working for Emma Email Marketing for a little over a year now. Chances are likely that if you’re reading this blog, you probably met me along the conference path, on Twitter, or you’re a friend and fellow Nashvillian (or Torontonian).

No matter how you know me, I’m certain you know how much I love Emma. The love is spread across multiple levels: my love for the product, the service and the people behind our friendly, glasses-wearing gal. It’s because of my love that it makes it so difficult for me to leave working for the world’s best email service provider (you can quote me on that).

The truth is that I’ve accomplished what I set out to do for Emma as a full time employee. I’ve been asked to stay on as a consultant on Emma’s Social Media Marketing initiatives. I’m happy to stay a part of the family. Now it’s time for me to follow my passion and use my traditional Marketing and Promotions experiences with my Social Networking and New Media strategy expertise.

Here are a few facts about me you may not know:

- I’ve been online since 1986 when I was using Bulletin Board Systems to communicate with friends.
- I created Spotted Galway, one of the first social networks in Ireland in 2000.
- I’ve been podcasting since 2005. Two Boobs and a Baby + has been covered in USA Today, Toronto Globe and Mail, CTV Television and the Jackson Sun.
- I’ve been an active blogger since 2003.
- I have nearly 10 years experience in traditional marketing, publicity and promotions.
- I was the Marketing Manager for the Toronto production of the Broadway musical HAIRSPRAY.
- I was a Promotions Executive for Canada’s largest newspaper, the Toronto Star.
- I worked on the entire re-branding of the Global Television network in Canada.

If you’d like to chat over a coffee (virtually or in person) about how I can help your company, I would love to speak with you. If you need some advice on an excellent Email Marketing service, look no further than Emma. I’m going to miss my friends the most, but I’m sure I’ll be seeing them over an air hockey game soon enough.

As my Irish speaking friends say Slan go foil (Good-bye for now).

    Dave:

Looks like we’re on a similar trajectory (like you I have been online since 1986. And I left the law firm life in January to have more time to work in social media myself).

All the best! The future is starting to look interesting. :-)

    Cheers,
    Connie

Wow! Best Wishes Dave ~ I’ll keep up with you on Twitter to see what the next Dave Delaney iteration will be.

Gotta admit, you freaked me out there for a sec when I saw “leaving Emma,” especially since Robin Maiden, our TDC (TheDivaCast) producer just recommended/purchased it for TDC and my new solo author interview blog/podcast Words To Mouth…Phew! Haven’t had a chance to get going on it yet, but sure glad to hear you’re still spreading the Emma-love.

Take Good Care & ALL the Best,
    Carrie
