I’ve been very fortunate over the last year to have attended some incredible conferences (and “unconferences”). Of the conferences a couple really had a lasting effect on me. One of which was Gnomedex 2007. Gnomedex was my first tech conference outside of Canada. It was also my first time in Seattle and I loved it.
The talent on stage (and off) was truly inspiring. Chris Pirillo and his wife Ponzi created a kick ass event. The venue is gorgeous, the food is terrific and the networking is priceless. It was Darren Barefoot’s presentation and mention of Nothing But Nets that influenced this blog (look at the top left corner).
Rather than going into a long post on everything I learned (again), I am happy to direct you to my original post after the conference. I admit there are a few inside jokes here, but it’s worth a gander.
- Comic Sans is (still) the worst font ever (closely followed by Curlz)
- EVERYONE who counts should be on Twitter
- Open Money needs to be explained in 140 characters or less
- Conference spam sucks
- Justin.TV isn’t worth watching anymore (his words, not mine)
- Scoble and Pirillo should avoid traveling to Hawaii together.
- We’re all doomed: brought to you by Amazon and Cisco - Blog that!
- Use cancer to get telemarketers off your back
Of course due to the fact that I am technically “between jobs” at the moment with a stay-at-home mum and two kids at home, there’s just no way I can afford to be in Seattle in two weeks. I am super bummed that I won’t be there this year.
